Indianapolis Cathedral suffered its first loss of the 2019 season Friday night, falling to Cincinnati Elder 38-31 in overtime.  The game started 50 minutes later than the originally scheduled 7 pm kickoff due to an accident on I-74 that delayed the Irish team buses traveling to Cincinnati by nearly three hours.  The loss drops Cathedral’s record to 2-1, while Elder remains unbeaten with a 2-0 mark. Trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Irish tied the score early in the second period when quarterback Orin Edwards ended an 11...

As Peebles sees it, that’s a solid foundation for his second season leading one of Indiana’s most-tradition-rich high school football programs. That foundation, along with the group’s talent, has Peebles optimistic entering ’19. “They’re very easy to coach,” Peebles said, “and we have some pretty good players on the team. BY: Scott Uecker on June 26, 2019

The Executive Committee of the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors has approved changes to the football sectional assignments for the 2019 and 2020 state tournaments, directly affecting Indianapolis Cathedral.  The Fighting Irish will compete in Class 5A for the next two seasons, rather than returning to Class 4A where the IHSAA originally assigned the school based on its enrollment. Cathedral Well Represented in Big Ten Championship Game
 on November 29, 2018

Saturday will be a homecoming of sorts for Terry McLaurin. Not that the Cathedral High School graduate sees Saturday’s Big 10 Football Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis in only that way. “The best way to celebrate is to win,” he said on a midweek conference call. McLaurin isn’t the only one with that feeling, nor is he the only player in Saturday’s game with strong ties to the host city – or to Cathedral. McLaurin, a senior wide receiver, is one of three Cathedral graduates pla...

Football Season Review
 on November 15, 2018

A strong program working to get stronger. That’s how Bill Peebles described Cathedral High School football during a 2018 season that marked his first as the program’s head coach. No, the Irish didn’t win a state title – and yes, Peebles said the Irish ideally would have gone further in the postseason. Still, even with a sectional-final loss, this was a successful debut. “We were disappointed we didn’t get through it, but we had some pretty remarkable things happen,” Peebles said. The Irish (6-6) not o...
