Six Irish Players Earn IFCA All-State Honors

The Indiana Football Coaches Association has named Cathedral senior tight end Haven Montefalco to its 2018 Top 50 All-State Team.  Montefalco caught 44 passes for 736 yards and four touchdowns this season.  He is one of two tight ends to earn Top 50 honors along with Fort Wayne Snider senior Simon Dellinger.   The IFCA selected Irish wide receiver Bo Sanders and linebacker Richie Hegarty to its 2018 Class 5-A senior all-state team.  Sanders caught 84 passes for 1,072 yards and 16 touchdowns.  Sanders earned IFCA Class 5-A juni...

Saturday will be a homecoming of sorts for Terry McLaurin. Cathedral lost to Ohio powerhouse Lakewood St. Edward, 39-14, on the road Saturday afternoon in a high school football matchup of schools founded by the Brothers of Holy Cross.  The teams combined for nearly 800 yards of total offense, but the Eagles had a more-balanced attack with quarterback Garrett Dzuro throwing for four touchdowns and running back Jordan Castleberry rushing for two more. Cathedral Draws Plainfield in Class 5-A Tournament

The Indiana High School Athletic Association has drawn the pairings for its 46th annual football state tournament.  Cathedral will host Plainfield in the first round of the Class 5-A state tournament on Friday, October 19th.  Both teams have 4-4 records entering the final week of the regular season.  The Irish are 6-1 all-time against the Quakers in tournament play. Cathedral jumped out to a 21-7 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Irish defeated Larry A. Cathedral evened its high school football season record at 3-and-3 Friday night with a 55-14 win at Jeffersonville.  The Irish rolled up 513 yards of total offense, while limiting the Red Devils to just 141 yards.   The 55 points are the most scored by Cathedral since the Irish tallied 56 against LaPorte in the 2014 Class 5-A state championship game. Cathedral opened its 100th high school football season Friday night with a 31-7 victory against Noblesville in the Horseshoe Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium. Undefeated Bishop Chatard took advantage of three Cathedral turnovers Friday night to defeat the Irish 17-14 at Arsenal Tech’s Howard Longshore Stadium.  It’s the first win in the series for the Trojans since 2012 as Cathedral entered the game having won 12 of the last 13 meetings between the rival schools. Cathedral celebrated its centennial anniversary on Friday night with a thrilling 20-14 overtime football victory against Cincinnati St. Xavier at the University of Indianapolis.  The Fighting Irish had lost 15 consecutive games to the Bombers.  The win is only the second for Cathedral in 18 meetings with St. X. Irish Fall Late in High Scoring Affair
