Indianapolis Cathedral overwhelmed Hammond Morton in a homecoming high school football game Friday night at Arlington. The Class 5-A top-rated Fighting Irish scored 37 points in the first 15 minutes on their way to a 51-0 victory in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. By mutual agreement of the coaches, a running clock began with nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Danny O'Neil threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter, connecting with Jaron Tibbs, Michael Page, and Tazz Garrett. Patrick Kendall recorded a safety as the Irish led 23-0 at the end of the first period. Seth Mencer added scoring runs of 5 and 7 yards early in the second quarter.
Justin Sage finished the first-half scoring with a 33-yard touchdown pass to David Ayers. Ty Carroll concluded the scoring in the third quarter with a 10-yard TD pass to Samuel Bridges.
The Cathedral defense allowed the Governors just 57 total yards on offense and only one first down. It’s the third game this season in which the Irish have held an opponent scoreless.
Cathedral improves its record to 6-0, while Hammond Morton falls to 1-5. The Fighting Irish travel to Cincinnati next Friday to face La Salle. The Ohio Division II second-ranked Lancers are 4-2 this season following a 28-14 Greater Catholic League conference loss Friday to Archbishop Moeller. Game time is 7:30.
