The Indiana High School Athletic Association has drawn the pairings for its 50th Annual Football State Tournament. Indianapolis Cathedral will compete in Class 6A for at least the 2022 and 2023 seasons under the IHSAA’s Success Factor, which moved the Fighting Irish up a class after winning the Class 5A state championship in 2020 and 2021.
Cathedral previously played in Class 6-A in the 2015 and 2016 postseasons, winning sectional titles both years before being eliminated in the regional round of the tourney.
Cathedral will begin the 2022 tournament hosting Lawrence North, which the Irish defeated in their last meeting, 41-38 in overtime, to begin the 2016 sectional. Cathedral is 3-3 all-time against the Wildcats. In the other Sectional 6 semifinal, North Central will travel to Lawrence Central. The Bears defeated the Panthers, 32-0, in Week 7 this season.
