The Irish Boys lost a tough game 1-0 at Zionsville on a goal with 28 seconds left in regulation time. After a hard-fought battle, with quality chances for both sides, Zionsville capitalized on a loose ball in front of the net and buried it to secure the victory. The Irish came out strong in the first half, creating two great scoring opportunities, first from Matt Welch on a deflected ball from 12 yards out that sailed just wide of the net, and the 2nd on a late chance from Coledon Johnson that the Zionsville Keeper was able to save. A couple of huge saves by Nik Kolosso kept the Irish in the game as Zionsville attacked a bit more in the 2nd half. In a tournament-like atmosphere, it seemed as if the game would end in a scoreless draw, but Zionsville finished on their final opportunity to seal the victory.
Next up, the Irish host Brebeuf on Tuesday, September 4th at 5:30 (JV) and 7:00 (V) on Cathedral Soccer Alumni Night.
