The Indiana Football Coaches Association has selected its 2022 all-state teams and six Cathedral players were chosen. Seniors Jaron Tibbs, Brennan Wooten and Kendrick Gilbert and junior Danny O’Neil were named to the IFCA Top 50 All-State Team. The IFCA also selected Sterling Smith for the Class 6A Senior All-State Team and Zach Meeks for the 6A Junior All-State Team.
Tibbs, a Purdue recruit, caught 59 passes this season for 885 yards and 13 touchdowns. The wide receiver holds the Cathedral career records for most receptions (156) and receiving yards (2,494). His 24 career touchdown catches are the second most in Cathedral history.
Wooten finished the year with 47 receptions for 476 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Western Michigan bound tight end played 49 varsity games for the Irish, catching 118 passes for 1,450 yards, which are fourth and seventh respectively on the school’s all-time career lists.
Gilbert, a Purdue defensive line recruit, had 28 tackles and two sacks this season and 86 tackles and 8 sacks in his three-year varsity career. He has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
O’Neil is the most prolific passer in Cathedral history, setting the school’s career records for most passing yards (5,768), touchdowns (68), completions (448) and attempts (713). He completed 62.5% of his passes this season for 2,704 yards and 34 TDs.
Smith, a defensive back who will play in college at Holy Cross, led the Irish in tackles this season with 76, while Meeks caught 37 passes for 452 yards and 3 touchdowns as a tight end.
