The boys soccer team overcame a little adversity Saturday night in becoming Sectional Champs with a 3-1 win over Lawrence North. Some slight changes in the starting line-up, swampy field conditions, a 30-minute lightning delay in the first half and an early goal by Lawrence North were not enough to keep this team from from repeating as Sectional Champions, only the third repeat in program history. After conceding a goal to Lawrence North at the 20 minute mark of the first half, the Irish came storming back. On back-to-back corner kicks, both served by Nick Mourouzis, the Irish quickly gained turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead, before heading into halftime! Sean Callaghan connected on the first tally and Nate Griffin, with a beautiful near-post slip header, put the Irish in front, for what turned out to be the game-winner. An insurance goal by Matt Welch, on one of the finest assists of the season from Jacob Schneider, with 15 minutes remaining in the game, settled the scoring and put an exclamation point on a gritty Irish performance!!
The Irish will face Brownsburg in the Regional Semifinals next Saturday, October 13th.
