Cathedral High School Hires New Basketball Head Coach for the Lady Irish
Indianapolis, IN – Cathedral High School is excited to announce Alan Vickrey is the new basketball head coach for the Lady Irish. Vickrey is certainly no stranger to coaching basketball. Vickrey was the head coach at Brebeuf from 1979-1997. He then moved to North Central High School, where he coached basketball from 1997 until 2011. In addition, Vickrey was an assistant coach at Columbus North High School from 2013 thru 2018, until returning to North Central High School as a consultant coach for the 2018-2019 season.

In his career, Vickrey has 469 wins and 225 losses as a head coach. He has 135 wins and 29 losses as an assistant/consultant coach. Vickrey is the first coach in Marion County history (men’s and women’s basketball) to win four consecutive championships. His teams have been Marion County tournament finalists nine times with six championships, 23 sectional finalists with seven championships, and five state finalists with three state championships.

Vickrey was the 1983 Indiana All-Star coach, and has coached two Indiana Miss Basketballs and six Indiana All-Stars. He has coached a Naismith Award Recipient (National Player of the Year) , and is the recipient of multiple coaching awards. Vickrey is a Decatur Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee, and a 2013 Inductee into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
