Indianapolis Cathedral scored twice in the fourth quarter on a rainy and windy Friday night to defeat Brebeuf Jesuit, 21-7, in high school football. With their third consecutive victory, the Fighting Irish improve to 6-2 this season. The Braves fall to 6-2 as their first home loss of the year ends a six-game winning streak.
Cathedral took the opening kickoff and marched 65 yards in 10 plays, finishing the drive on Orin Edwards’ 4-yard touchdown pass to Cam Jordan. Brebeuf tied the score, 7-7, in the second quarter on an 87-yard touchdown pass from Drake Hagerman to Gabe Wright.
The score remained tied in the fourth quarter until Edwards completed a touch pass to David Perry who ran around the right end untouched for a three-yard score. On the first play of the next drive, Brebeuf fumbled and Cathedral’s Vincent Constantino recovered the ball at the Braves’ 30-yard line. Jake Langdon rushed on the next four plays, scoring from the 3-yard line on his final attempt, to put the Irish ahead 21-7.
Langdon led a Cathedral rushing attack that totaled 290 yards. He gained 129 yards on 19 carries for his second effort this season of 100 or more rushing yards in a game. The Irish defense limited Brebeuf to 135 yards of total offense and just 29 yards in the second half. The Braves had minus 10 yards rushing for the game.
Cathedral has won 15 of 19 meetings all-time against Brebeuf Jesuit. The Fighting Irish conclude the regular season next Friday when they host Center Grove for Senior Night at Arsenal Tech’s Howard Longshore Stadium. The Trojans dominated the Irish last season by a score of 34-7. Center Grove is 4-4 this season following a 35-21 home win over Lawrence North Friday night. The Trojans have won three-in-a-row and four of their last five games.
