A message from Girls Tennis Head Coach Mark Noe
It is hard to believe that there will be no 2020 spring sports. In all of my years of tennis coaching since 1987, I and obviously many of us are witnessing a rare and sad moment in our lifetime. The season had a lot of promise with four of the starters back from our 2019 championship season. This squad was going to be a pre-season top 5 ranked team in Indiana. We were looking good from the start.
Meg Coleman, the Lady Irish superstar and hero of 2019 was a heavy favorite to play for a singles state championship. Cole Spau and Bella Montefalco were coming off a great 1st team doubles performance and were gearing up for a run on the state doubles title. Rachel Konesco was coming back with a solid performance at 2 doubles and a lot more experience under her belt.
The coaching staff was ready and stoked to help take this team back for another run in 2020. The coaches and myself are obviously very disappointed and are still in shock about this situation. We were hoping that we would get back in May and complete some sort of season for the student athletes. Joe Lustig, Renee Noe and Salley Gardner had been preparing for this season with myself since early January. Plans have been put on hold. We know this event has taken its toll on the senior players and the underclassman.
Many of the underclassman had been preparing diligently during the off season and were going to make a huge contribution coming into this months practice and dual matches. Sara Wojtalik, Katie Timble and Caroline Buehner were on the verge of making a difference this year.
We can cherish the great year and years we have had with the outgoing seniors. Always remember the wonderful contributions to a great tradition and legacy of the Lady Irish that will live forever.
