Cathedral volleyball hosted Brebeuf on Tuesday, September 22, in the Welch Activity Center. The JV and Varsity Irish squads were in action against the Braves.
In the Varsity match the Irish found themselves on the short end of a 13-19 score in set one before rallying to claim the win 25-21 over the Braves. Brebeuf turned the tables on Cathedral in the next three sets, however. The Irish built leads in sets two, three, and four only to see the Braves storm back and claim wins in all three sets. Cathedral fought valiantly but came up short with scores of 17-25, 23-25, and 17-25, respectively, over the final sets to drop the match 1-3 to Brebeuf (25-21, 17-25, 23-25, 17-25). The Irish now stand at 7-8 on the season.
On defense the Irish recorded 8 total blocks with junior Erica Barnhisel leading the way with 4 total blocks, 3 assisted and 1 solo. Cathedral also recorded 54 total digs, with senior Lucia Corsaro tallying 17 digs and junior Carol Kubacki tallying 14 digs. On Offense the Irish saw junior Katie Bremer knock down 11 kills and sophomore Mallory Dills put up 18 assists.
The first match of the evening in the WAC saw the JV Irish down the JV Braves in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-15. The JV Irish move to 14-1 on the season with the win.
Cathedral goes on the road to Yorktown on Thursday, September 24, with the JV and Varsity Irish in action against the Tigers. JV begins at 6PM with the Varsity immediately following at 7PM.
