Cathedral Varsity and JV volleyball played Westfield in the Welch Activity Center on Wednesday, September 30. The Freshman were in simultaneous action against Brebeuf in the Mimms.
In the Varsity match the Irish dropped a close first set 24-26 to the Shamrocks. Cathedral also dropped the second and third sets to Westfield 20-25 and 16-25, respectively. The match loss (24-26, 20-25, 16-25) dropped the Irish to 7-11 on the season.
On offense the Irish were led by sophomore Caiti Barthel with 10 kills while sophomore Mallory Dills dished out 12 assists and junior Kelsey Bailey handed out 11 assists. On defense the Irish were led by senior Mia Finn with 10 digs while junior Katie Bremer knocked down 4 assisted blocks.
In the first match of the evening, the JV Irish fell by scores of 6-25 and 8-25 to the JV Shamrocks. The match loss (6-25, 8-25) puts the JV Irish at 14-3 on the season.
The Freshman Irish were also in action Wednesday in the MIMMS against the Brebeuf Braves and secured the match win in straight sets to move to 10-1 on the season.
Cathedral plays next week in the Indianapolis City Alliance Tournament, hosting a second-round game at the WAC on Tuesday, October 6. The Varsity and JV are both #2 seeds and will each face the winner of the #7 seed Herron versus #10 seed Crispus Attucks first-round match. JV match begins at 6PM with the Varsity match immediately following around 7PM.
