They fought, scrapped and maximized what they were.
That defined Cathedral High School boys tennis in 2022, and that’s what second-year coach Jeff Giles will remember most about a season of adversity for the Irish.
It was a season of success for the Irish, too – a season highlighted by memorable individual moments and big-time performances en route to another City Championship.
“We had some good wins at the end of the year,” Giles said of a team that also finished with an overall varsity grade point average of 3.93.

This is a tough team, a resilient team.
If Jeff Giles didn’t already know that about Cathedral High School boys tennis in 2022, an impressive midseason stretch assured him it was true.
The Irish fought through adversity during that time, changing the course of the season against a difficult midseason schedule and helping the Irish – long of Central Indiana’s top boys tennis programs – prepare for what is expected to be a challenging postseason.
“We’re starting to pick it up and improve,” Giles said in mi...

This was a good start.
A solid foundation was laid for Cathedral High School boys tennis in 2021, which was one of the objectives in Jeff Giles’ first season as head coach.

“Overall, despite some early-season challenges, we en...

This was a good fall for Cathedral High School boys tennis.
The Irish played the entire season, and that was notable considering the COVID-19 circumstances that have surrounded athletics at all levels in recent months.
Mark Noe said the program succeeded in a big way on the court, too.
“We had a good season,” said Noe, in his 19th season as the program’s coach.
Irish boys tennis, long one of the state’s top high school boys tennis programs, was that again in 2020. The Irish finished No. 15 in the Indiana High School Te...

Cathedral High School boys tennis overcame a lot in 2019.
The Irish during the 2019 season dealt with serious injuries while continuing to grow as a young team, and longtime Cathedral tennis coach Mark Noe said that made the season memorable and successful overall.
“We’re getting better every year, and the boys are playing more,” Noe said.
That improvement was seen vividly during a season in which the Irish finished 11-7 and ended the season with a competitive 5-0 loss to rival and state power North Central in the Sectional 48 ...
