Joel Russell
A life-long soccer enthusiast and learner, Joel has been the Head Boys Soccer Coach at Cathedral since 2020 after serving as the Assistant Head Coach for three years prior. During his tenure, Joel’s teams have experienced success on and off the field winning City and Sectional championships and leading the state with Academic All-State players.
Off the field, Joel worked with parents and administrators to implement new policies and procedures into the soccer program, notably the Upper 90 Club. Before coaching at Cathedral, Joel coached club soccer in the Indianapolis area since 1998. Joel played two years at Indiana University and two years at Stanford University. At Indiana, Joel's team won the Big Ten title and advanced to the NCAA Semi-Finals. At Stanford, Joel captained the team his senior year and led the Cardinal to one NCAA appearance. As a youth player, Joel co-captained the United States U-17 Youth National Soccer Team at the FIFA U-17 Youth World Cup in Scotland. Joel was a multi-year member of the US Soccer Region II and Michigan ODP teams. Joel was a four-year varsity starter at Detroit Country Day High School, winning three state championships.
A graduate of Stanford University, Joel is the Founder and CEO of eimagine technology group. He and his family are members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
