The Lady Irish Soccer team defeated South Bend St. Joseph 1-0 to win the state championship! The 2018 title is the third in program history.
Maddie Wirth scored the deciding goal 93 seconds into the game and the Irish played lock down defense the rest of the way. Senior goal keeper Sophia Saucernman stopped 22 St Joseph attacks as she recorded her seventh shutout this season.
Head coach Marc Behringer told the Indy Star "Sophia has done that all year long. We gave up two goals the entire tournament and one was on a penalty kick. She only saw one ball get past her in the entire tournament. It's not because she doesn't face shots. She does. Her heart is just huge."
The Irish finsihed the season 13-4-4 and won their first title since 2009.
