The girls soccer program traveled to Carmel for matches last weekend. The competition was strong and the ladies performed well. The JV team played the Carmel JV to a 0-0 score in a match ended just 6 minutes into the second half due to lightning. They followed that evening with a 2-1 loss that saw the Irish fight back from a 2-0 deficit. The goal was scored by Junior Mary White with an assist from Gracie Jarrett.
The varsity team had their first match stopped at halftime due to weather. The ladies played well against the top-ranked Greyhounds while missing four players who were taking the SAT. The match ended in a 1-0 loss (matches are considered official once they reach halftime). Unfortunately, the shortened match took a huge toll on Cathedral as senior defender Hailey Loftin got caught up in a tackle and incurred a season ending knee injury. Our prayers are with Hailey.
In the second match, the Irish flexed their muscles and knocked off 2A #9 Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger 4-0. Goals were scored by Juniors Maddie Wirth (2) and Bridget Stratman (2).
The ladies look forward to the next two matches against Westfield at home and Senior Night against 3A #8 Brownsburg.
