The Irish got an early scare from Franklin Central Wednesday night as they found themselves down 2-0 in the first 20 minutes of the game. But the boys responded with 5 unanswered goals to secure the 5-2 victory and advance to the Sectional Finals on Saturday night.
After gathering themselves 20 minutes into the game, Sean Callaghan got the Irish on the board when he converted a penalty kick to cut the Franklin Central lead in half. Ten minutes later, Callaghan connected again on a beautiful left-footed bomb from just outside the 18-yard box to tie it up going into halftime. The Irish weren't done as Coledon Johnson struck 15 minutes into the 2nd half to give the Irish their first lead of the night. Johnson struck again 15 minutes later on a beautifully placed shot that eluded the Franklin Central goalkeeper and found the back of the net. With time winding down, Matt Welch buried a rebound shot by Noah Gruber to put a stamp on the epic comeback at 5-2. Callaghan and Johnson each contributed an assist on the evening, in addition to their 2 goals apiece.
The Irish face Lawrence North at Lawrence North on Saturday at 7:00 PM in the Sectional Final.
