Coming off a successful 2018, we are looking to do even better in 2019. Last year we were Golden Bear Invite Champs, and City Champs. We finished 2nd in sectionals for the second year in a row, and scored the most points. School records for each. The teams was also Freshman City Champs as well. So the younger athletes are looking to contribute this season.
Athletes to watch:
XC State Champion and 1600m runner up, Cole Hocker. Set multiple school records last season, and looking to do more. 1600 - 4:08.04, 800 - 1:55.15, 3200 - 9:06.47.
7th place at state in the 4x800, will have 3 returners. Nick Hruskoci, RJ O'Neal, and Ryan Pehlman. O'Neal and Hruskoci look strong to finish high in the 800, and Pehlman looking for the 3200 podium.
Jack Hutchens was a state finalist in the pole vault, and is geared up towards making another run at state. Senior Tim Maginn, and juniors, Max Martin and Zach Gregor will be looking to PR.
Some of our top sprinters include senior, Chon'Dre Cissell, juniors Garrett Stewart and Jordan Thomas. All will be looking to improve in the 100 and 200, and trying to make a state finals run in the 4x100. Aaron Rodgers and James Wayne are state final caliber in the 400 as well.
Our hurdlers will be looking to improve on great PRs last season. Senior, Colin O'Dell and Marco Rebolledo lead the charge. Sophomore Jake Langdon will play in integral role as well.
Cathedral returns some dynamic jumpers. 2-time sectional champion senior, Malcolm Clark, has a chance to make a state run. Junior, Quinton Cannon, will be competing in the long and high jump, with state finals aspirations as well.
The throwers will have great numbers this year. Over 10 total, Seniors, Zion Johnson, Joe Finnell, Jacob Schommer, Jon Barker, and Judah Officer lead the pack.
