The Boys Golf team will begin their season on Tuesday, March 26 at the Maple Creek Golf Course against Guerin Catholic. The team is coached by Pat Fagan who is in his seventh year as head coach.
Last year, the team finished sixth in the state after winning regionals, something that Coach Fagan is looking to accomplish again this season. Three athletes who competed in the state finals tournament last year are returning to this year’s squad.
This year will mark the 11th anniversary of the 2008 state championship season. Coach Fagan believes that winning the regional tournament will help the team earn success.
"Winning regionals is our key to get to state. Only the top three teams make it to state, so we hope to find ourselves in that range,” Coach Fagan said.
Prior to the regional tournament, Cathedral golf will compete in numerous invitationals, including at one of the top golf courses in the state, Crooked Stick Golf Course, on May 7. The team will compete in the Maple Creek Sectional Tournament on May 31 hosted by Heritage Christian. For the past five years, the boys golf team has been named the Sectional team champion.
Coach Fagan is joined by assistant coaches Mike Miller, Rick Shadiow, Scott Barla and Alex Dickman.
