What a great evening at Carmel High School tennis courts last night! Your Lady Irish tennis squad defeated the 2018 state championship team by a score of 3-2.
The Lady Irish were led by sophomore at Ellie Pittman with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Pittman methodically moved her opponent around the court and took control of the match after a slow start. Ellie was the first player off the court.
Meg Coleman at 2 singles played a very tough opponent and prevailed 6-2, 7-5. Near the end of the second set, Coleman picked up the pace and overwhelmed her opponent with power and placement to take the set and the match.
The match of the night was Claire Koscielski at 3 singles. Claire played for three hours, fought off three match points and won the three set battle 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7). At one point during the third set her opponent was serving for the match 7-6. Claire ripped a forehand return down the line , forcing the Carmel player to hit an awkward forehand into the net. Claire then won the next two points to clinch her match and the team victory!
The 1 doubles duo of Cole Spau and Bella Montefalco played a great match against a great team but lost 3-6, 6-7. Spau and Montefalco have improved immensely since the last season and will see this team again down the road.
Number two doubles team of Cassie Kronenberger and Rachel Konesco played an undefeated Carmel duo that had a lot of weapons. The Lady Irish duo took their doubles play to another level and competed well. Kroenenberger and Konesco returned well off the ground and have shown some improvement at the net.
