These are good, fun times for the Central Indiana Knights. They could get even better.
The Knights, a hockey team made up of players from Cathedral High School and other Central Indiana high schools, won a state title in 2021-2022 and is moving forward strongly in ’22-23.
The Knights are also strong enough to compete at the highest level.
“We’re playing really well,” Knights Head Coach Rob Pozzebon said.
The Knights as of early-to-mid January had won 13 of their last 14 games. They were 6-2 in the Hoosier Championship ...

The goals are lofty – and as Jason Delaney sees it, the path to the goals is clear.
Cathedral High School boys basketball is a state contender again in 2022-2023. And if the Irish are to reach their goal, they must continue improving.
Every month. Every week. Every day.
“When we get to the state tournament, we can’t be the team we are in January,” said Delaney, in his seventh season as Irish boys basketball coach.
The Irish, Indiana Class 4A state champions in 2021-2022, returned a strong core in 2022-2023 – and ...

This may be a different kind of season for Cathedral High School wrestling.
The Irish, perennial state-title contenders, enter 2022-2023 without their usual level of experience – and therefore with different expectations than usual. But they have front-line talent – and the potential for a memorable season.
“It’s a new experience for us, but as a team I like where we’re at,” Irish wrestling coach Sean McGinley said.
The Irish, state champions in 2014 and 2018-2020, finished fifth in 2022. They won the 2022 Cit...

This was a successful season by any measure.
Cathedral High School football throughout the 2022 season competed with the biggest schools and the best teams – and the Irish often beat the biggest schools and the best teams. They also made a run deep into the postseason.
“We just got consistently better as the season went on,” Irish Head Coach Bill Peebles said.
The young Irish, playing in Class 6A after winning back-to-back Class 5A state titles in 2021 and 2022, improved steadily throughout the 2022 season and finished 10-2 wit...

The growth continues – in very encouraging fashion.
Cathedral High School 2022-2023 girls basketball has the feel of a program on the rise – and that’s true even beyond a solid early-season start.
The Irish, after a 15-10 season in 2021-2022, started the 2022-23 season with a record of 4-3 as of early December. And Head Coach Lisa Finn said while the schedule likely will get more difficult as the season continues, the ’22-23 Irish are a young group that is growing by the week.
“We have a good base,” said Finn,...

Second-ranked Cathedral jumped out to a 10-0 lead Friday night in the Class 6A football semi-state, but failed to score in the final three quarters, falling to third-rated and two-time defending champion Center Grove 33-10 at Arsenal Tech’s Howard Longshore Stadium. The loss ended the Irish bid for their first-ever 6A finals appearance and a 14-game postseason winning streak.
Cathedral drove 79 yards on its first possession to set up a 26-yard Van Krisiloff field goal. Carson Johnson began the next Irish possession with a 43-yar...

The growing continued for Cathedral High School boys cross country.
The Irish in 2022 as a rebuilding team were also a young team, one that made strides throughout the season and into the postseason.
“The coaching staff was really pleased with how the year went,” second-year boys cross-country coach Jason Moyars said in an email. “I am pleased with how each of the runners strived to push themselves out of their comfort zone to get better.”
The Irish, after finishing sixth in the sectional in 2021, finished as the City run...

They were good, and they were close to being much better.
Cathedral High School girls volleyball also improved dramatically during the 2022 season, which set the stage for future Irish teams. That made ’22 a successful season.
It made it an important one, too.
“We were trying to form a culture of family and being a good teammate to the person next to you,” Karrie Quenichet said following her first season as the Irish’s girls volleyball coach. “I feel like progress was made there and I’m proud of that.”

It started in tough, testing fashion. It ended dramatically. Cathedral High School 2022 boys soccer overcame injury, adversity and a difficult schedule. By season’s end, they were tournament tough and savvy. They also were of the state’s best teams. “It certainly was an interesting year,” Irish boys soccer coach Joel Russell said. “I couldn't be more proud of the boys.”
The Irish finished the 2022 regular season with a 3-6-5 record and unranked in the Indiana Soccer Coaches Associat...
