This was a solid team, a good team.
Cathedral High School golf boys performed consistently much of the 2023 season, doing so with strong performances from players of various levels and experience playing major roles.
That made ’23 a successful season, as coach Mike Miller saw it.
“It was really, really enjoyable,” Miller said.
The Irish, who placed fourth in the Indiana High School Athletic Association state tournament in 2022, lost state runner-up Ryan Ford – who went on to play at the University of Cincinnati –...

This was a memorable season, as expected.
Cathedral High School’s boys golf team entered the 2022 season with two experienced, talented seniors – a duo that included one of the state’s top golfers. It was a strong team, capable of a postseason run.
The Irish were just that in ’22.
“We’ve had a great season so far,” Irish first-year boys golf coach Ryan Brammer said in mid-May as the Irish prepared for the Indiana High School Athletic Association postseason.
The Irish season as of mid-to-late May inclu...

This was disappointing. Without question.
Coach Patrick Fagan and the Cathedral High School boys golf team know there are bigger issues than the 2020 season. Still, within the context of high school sports and what they mean, Fagan said the pain members of 2020 Irish golf felt in March was real.
“We would have had a chance to win the state championship,” Fagan said.
Irish boys golf, like all Indiana high school spring sports, had its 2020 season canceled by regulations addressing Covid-19. Fagan said the Irish had yet to have tryouts...

Braden Estes
I will never forget the first time I met Braden. He was at our Open House in the fall of his 8th grade year and my son (head boys basketball coach at the time) came over to me and pointed at Braden and said, “there is the guy you need to talk to, he can play.” Well he was correct and fortunately Braden came to Cathedral. He started on JV his freshman year and about midway through the year when we were going to Angola we decided to give Braden a chance at varsity. He played the rest of the year and finished that year playing in...

Consider the foundation laid.
That was a theme throughout the Cathedral High School 2019 boys golf season, with a young team experiencing success in the present and also establishing itself as contender for the future.
“It was a really, really fun season,” Irish golf coach Patrick Fagan said.
There were many reasons for that.
First, the Irish were more successful in ’19 than many observers expected. Despite the loss after the 2018 season of three-time All-State golfer Austin Vukovits, the Irish – after entering the sea...
