Another year, another strong season.
That has become the norm for Cathedral High School girls track and field, and it remained that way for an experienced Irish team in 2023.
Senior Kailee Swart won the state pole-vaulting title, and her state-record performance – along with strong relay teams and several standout individual performances – led the Irish to a 10th-place finish in the Indiana High School Athletic Association State meet.
Swart set a state record with a vault of 13 feet, six and a half inches. The team state finish was t...

Kailee Swart won the 2023 IHSAA State Pole Vault Title. Swart cleared 12-3 on her third attempt, then went to 12-6 to clinch the state championship. After clearing 13-0 on her second attempt, she set the height to 13-6 ½. Another spring, another strong season.
Cathedral High School girls track and field, one year after the most successful season in program history, followed that with more historical success in 2022.
“It was a fun year,” Irish girls track and field coach John O’Hara said in mid-May. “It’s always good to have numbers and it’s been a very enjoyable group. We’re not at the most elite level in every category, but in every event, we had a chance to get somebody to state, which is really fun.”
With senior ...

These are strong times for Cathedral High School track and field.
The Irish not only won the Indiana High School Athletic Association girls state title for the first time in program history in 2021, they continue to build strong – and contending – teams in both the boys’ and girls’ programs.
Numbers are strong, and front-line talent is, too – and that has Irish track and field coach John O’Hara feeling good about the short- and long-term prospects for the program.
“We feel really good,” O’Har...

Congratulations to the Girls Track and Field team on winning the 2021 State Championship! This is the first state title for Cathedral in track and field. Cathedral clinched the title on the final race of the evening! In the 1600 Relay, the Irish placed first to clinch the title. The state title is even more remarkable considering the Irish only had five runners competing in the state meet.
State Results:
1st - 1600 Relay (Reese Sanders, Milani Kimble, Sidney Sanders, Kaylah Pitts)
1st - 300 Meter Hurdles (Reese Sanders)
3rd - 100 Meter Hurdl...

This was disappointing, without question.
That was true for every Indiana high school spring sport in 2020, and it held true for a Cathedral High School girls track team poised for another season of growth and success.
Those traits have defined Irish girls track in recent seasons.
That the program didn’t get to experience them in ’20 hurt, but coach John O’Hara said he doesn’t believe that will keep the program from continuing on a successful course.
“We really had a nice base from the sprints all the way to the ...
