This was a memorable era, historically so.
That made the end of the 2022-2023 Cathedral High School boys basketball season a difficult time – but also one of tremendous satisfaction.
“It’s bittersweet,” Irish boys basketball coach Jason Delaney said.
The Irish, a year after winning the first Class 4A state title in program history in 2021-2022, were again one of Indiana’s top high school basketball programs in 2022-2023. They finished 19-6 against a national schedule, won a second consecutive Section 10, Class 4A ti...

The goals are lofty – and as Jason Delaney sees it, the path to the goals is clear.
Cathedral High School boys basketball is a state contender again in 2022-2023. And if the Irish are to reach their goal, they must continue improving.
Every month. Every week. Every day.
“When we get to the state tournament, we can’t be the team we are in January,” said Delaney, in his seventh season as Irish boys basketball coach.
The Irish, Indiana Class 4A state champions in 2021-2022, returned a strong core in 2022-2023 – and ...

The wait was worth it. Unbelievably so.
The 2021-2022 Cathedral High School boys basketball team won the Class 4A state title, capping perhaps the most historic season in program history in convincing – and fitting – fashion.
It was a state-title game that capped a memorable, hard-earned season.
It was a state-championship season that capped a long, memorable journey.
It was, as Jason Delaney put it, “surreal.”
“That was the feeling we all had: ‘Did this just really happen?’’’ said Dela...

This is a talented group. Really, really talented.
But while that’s unquestionably true for 2021-2022 Cathedral High School boys basketball, Head Coach Jason Delaney something else is more important.
The Irish are a good team. Really, really good.
“It’s a joy to come to practice and come to work with these guys,” Delaney said.
Delaney said it’s the team part that gives the ’21-’22 Irish – even more than a roster of players who as of late November had received 53 scholarship offers – a chan...

Jason Delaney likes a lot about the 2020-2021 Cathedral High School boys basketball team.
It’s a talented team that handles adversity well. It’s a team with good balance and good leadership. It’s a team that’s experienced despite being young.
Delaney likes something else about the ’21 Irish, too.
“They’re a group of guys who want to be challenged and want to be coached,” said Delaney, now in his fifth season coaching the program. “And they respond to those challenges. They go to work.

Cathedral-Boys basketball wrapup
Much went well, and the future looks bright.
Head Coach Jason Delaney said both things were true for Cathedral High School boys basketball in 2019-2020. It was a successful season by any measure.
“But it doesn’t change the sting of the end,” Delaney said.
A young, inexperienced Irish team set new standards in ’19-’20, finishing 18-6 in difficult circumstances – and against one of the area’s more difficult schedules. The season ended with a 71-68 loss to Crisp...

Article from the Indy Star

Cathedral coach Jason Delaney made his pitch for Armaan Franklin as this year’s IndyStar Mr. Basketball after the senior’s performance in the City tournament championship on Wednesday night at Tech.
Franklin, the 6-5 senior guard, was sensational in a 78-48 win over Crispus Attucks. The Indiana recruit scored 23 of his game-high 29 points in the first half, going 8-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from the 3-point line before halftime.
“In my opinion he’s Mr. Basketball because he plays bot...

The time is now.
Head coach Jason Delaney made that much clear when discussing 2018-2019 Cathedral High School boys basketball.
“This is the year we built for, since the beginning,” said Delaney, now in his third season as the Irish’s boys basketball coach.
The Irish, who went 19-5 with a first-round sectional loss in 2017-2018, enter the 2018-2019 season amid higher expectations – and were ranked No. 7 in the December 2 Indiana Basketball Coaches Association state rankings.
“We’ll get a great indication of...

The disappointment was as real as the future is bright.
That’s how Jason Delaney saw the 2017-2018 Cathedral High School boys basketball season – as one that was full of accomplishment and hope, and equally full of disappointment at the end.
The Irish went 19-5 in Delaney’s second season as head coach.
They were ranked No. 8 in the final Class 4A Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll.
They continued to build one of the state’s best programs – and a 71-63 loss to Lawrence North in the opening round of the ...
