More progress was made. More steps were taken.
Cathedral High School girls basketball moved forward during the 2022-2023 season with an experienced team – one that was competitive against the area’s top teams despite injuries and other adversity.
The Irish accomplished important things in ’22-’23. Even in difficult times.
“I think we made some headway competing against some of these teams we need to compete with to be successful in the postseason,” Irish girls basketball coach Lisa Finn said.

The growth continues – in very encouraging fashion.
Cathedral High School 2022-2023 girls basketball has the feel of a program on the rise – and that’s true even beyond a solid early-season start.
The Irish, after a 15-10 season in 2021-2022, started the 2022-23 season with a record of 4-3 as of early December. And Head Coach Lisa Finn said while the schedule likely will get more difficult as the season continues, the ’22-23 Irish are a young group that is growing by the week.
“We have a good base,” said Finn,...

Progress was made, and there was plenty of success.
Lisa Finn liked those things – and a lot of other things – about the 2021-2022 Cathedral High School girls basketball season.
It was a season that featured a slew of positive memories, a slew of victories and a major step forward for a program that has made serious strides while playing in one of the most difficult sections in the state of Indiana.
The Irish formed an identity this past season, and it was a strong one.
“We had a couple of hurdles along the way, but I would ...

This season has a chance to be special. And memorable.
It already has been fun – and all are reasons that Head Coach Lisa Finn said there is a lot to like about Cathedral High School girls basketball in 2021.
“We’re learning and improving each game and that’s helpful,” Finn said.
The Lady Irish, with largely a new team from last season and with some significant additions via transfer, started the season with a 4-4 record – with two of losses coming by three and two points. One of the victories came in convinci...

The games were played, and that was good.
Progress was made for a second consecutive season – and that was really, really good for Cathedral High School girls basketball.
Those were two 2020-2021 storylines for a program that continues to move in a positive direction – and for Irish girls basketball coach Lisa Finn, those were two reasons the season was successful.
“I feel good about where we were,” Finn said. “I was happy with our effort at the end for sure.”

The direction is right, and the promise is real.
Lisa Finn likes those things about Cathedral High School girls basketball these days. And while the coming months won’t be easy, Finn said she expects the program to continue in a promising direction.
“I feel good where we are,” Finn said.
Where are the Irish early in the 2020-2021 season? They’re a growing program – one that features five seniors and two juniors, a closely-knit group that’s grasping her philosophy in her second season as head coach.

Overall, Lisa Finn liked what she saw.
That didn’t mean the first-year head coach or the Lady Irish players loved everything about the results of the 2019-2020 Cathedral High School girls basketball season. Still, this past season was about establishing a program.
On that front, progress was made – a lot of progress. And a foundation was laid on which much can be built moving forward. All of that left a positive feeling.
“I think it went well,” Finn said. “When you look at the season in terms of wins and losses &hel...

The goals around Cathedral High School girls basketball are simple. They’re lofty, too.
So, while first-year head coach Lisa Finn wants the Irish to build a foundation for the future, she and the program are thinking about short-term objectives, too.
“At the beginning, our goals were in a certain spot, but as we continue to have success we say, ‘Guys, why not us?’’’ Finn said. “This year is a year it could be anyone.”
The Irish, a season after finishing under .500, have started 2019-2020 strong. Th...

The Lady Irish finished 10-15 in 2018-2019, winning five of their final 10 games following a difficult 4-9 start that featured multiple early-season injuries and obstacles. They beat Arsenal Tech 58-16 in the first round of the Section 10, Class 4A tournament at Cathedral then finished the season by losing to Heritage Christian in the sectional semifinal, 64-47.
The loss ended a season in which the Irish got solid performances from a slew of young players who should set the tone for a strong future.

Reggen Melson sees a difficult objective simply.
Excellence at the state level is the overall objective at Cathedral High School – and Melson says it’s simply and obviously the objective for Irish girls basketball, too.
Getting there takes work, and the Irish are beginning that process under Melson during what has been a promising start to the 2017-2018 season.
“We’re getting there,” said Melson, in her first season as the Irish’s head coach after previous head coaching stints at Scecina and Crispus Attucks....
